Coming Soon - Fifth Session

BICYCLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

Wednesday evenings, October 2-30, 7:30-9PM at Bushy Park Elementary School, Glenwood, Howard County, MD

Back for its fifth session is a five-part course taught by Larry Black, "Bicycle Maintenance and Repair." The five classes are Wednesday evenings, 7:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m., October 2 through October 30 at Bushy Park Elementary School in Glenwood, Maryland. Bring your bicycle to class.

This course covers how to keep a bicycle and its rider working as an effective team. The FUNdamentals of riding - commuting, racing, touring, alternative bikes, and fitness are discussed and interwoven with nuts and bolts repair lectures and demos from flats to overhauls. Other helpful topics include:

* Safety
* Selecting a bike - new or used
* Getting the best value in bikes
* Selling or trading your used bike
* Equipment upgrading for efficiency
* Bike advocacy and legislation
* Events in the area and local clubs and organizations
* Advanced topics like wheel building and frame alignment also are covered

Larry Black, founder of College Park and Mt. Airy Bicycles, has been teaching bicycle maintenance classes since 1973, so your questions won't be new to the instructor. Questions raised at a store get lost in the craziness of ringing phones and serving other customers. But here, the class is limited to 15 students, permitting individual attention. Previous editions of this class have been full.

The course fee is $45 (with an optional manual available for $20 at first class). Register with the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks (410-313-7275) or its webite at
